I know it's a more complicated issue involving politics and indication etc. I'll try to put this as objective as i can be, to homo sapiens sapiens.
In Congo today there are rebels fighting against Congo-Rwanda military forces. they have weapons and there is little effort to stop them. (Not only by Congo or Rwanda governments but by UN too.) These rebels act extremely violent and brutal to their victims and obviously seeking more power in the society. They rape their male victims for humiliation and submission.
There are also reports about, the military raping women and looting villages for money and goods. The rape clinics are overloaded and only a small percentage of rape victims come out as long as they don't have severe health problems.
The most interesting part is "One mother said a United Nations peacekeeper raped her 12-year-old boy. A United Nations spokesman said that he had not heard that specific case but that there were indeed a number of new sexual abuse allegations against peacekeepers in Congo and that a team was sent in late July to investigate." - The New York Times 08\09\09.
So these people are so desperate and helpless they don't even know where to turn. And unfortunately very little people know about this around the world and even less people care. This happened in Rwanda, Uganda and other African countries before and maybe someone is trying to keep area as it is for easier ecosystem domination.
2. Hunger / Waste
"The new study, from the University of Arizona (UA) in Tucson, indicates that a shocking forty to fifty per cent of all food ready for harvest never gets eaten.
Timothy Jones, an anthropologist at the UA Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology, has spent the last 10 years measuring food loss, including the last eight under a grant from the US department of agriculture (USDA). Jones started examining practices in farms and orchards, before going onto food production, retail, consumption and waste disposal.
What he found was that not only is edible food discarded that could feed people who need it, but the rate of loss, even partially corrected, could save US s.consumers and manufacturers tens of billions of dollars each year. Jones says these losses also can be framed in terms of environmental degradation and national security." - reference.
And not only US Europe is aware of it too, even though there is only little effort and that is by non-governmental organizations. i.e
On the other hand;
"There were 923 million hungry people in the world in 2007, an increase of 80 million since 1990, despite the fact that the world already produces enough food to feed everyone - 6 billion people - and could feed double - 12 billion people. On the average, a person dies every second as a result of hunger - 4000 every hour - 100 000 each day - 36 million each year - 58 % of all deaths (2001-2004 estimates). On the average, a child dies every 5 seconds as a result of hunger - 700 every hour - 16 000 each day - 6 million each year - 60% of all child deaths (2002-2008 estimates).
I can't seem to think of a reason for why we are doing this to our own species, maybe the world is not one big ecosystem for the humans, we are only evolved enough to concentrate in our little ecosystems problems cooperatively and not even quite successful at it yet.
3. Equality of Rights
I know you won't but I think it is a good idea to look at these statistics about what your kind is doing in it's extremely complicated ecosystem and think of what would happen if everything was equally distributed and there wasn't any unnecessary expenses on food, war or luxury. Because we are all human and we all can have an idea of human capacity for further evolution (Maybe a social) just by looking into your own head.
Edit: Love is crucial.
